Franco Calapinto Hits Back at Alex Albon’s Fiery Singapore Start Criticism

The Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix commenced with notable drama as Williams Racing drivers Alex Albon and Franco Calapinto clashed in the first corner. Calapinto executed an aggressive move, diving down the inside and passing several cars, including Yuki Tsunoda, Carlos Sainz, and teammate Alex Albon. Albon was pushed wide by this maneuver, falling back to 15th and expressing his frustration over the team radio: “Franco just divebombed. What’s he doing?”

Post-race, Albon’s initial annoyance softened as he reflected on the event. “I don’t know how it looked on the outside, but I think it was more just that no one could turn into the corner,” Albon explained. “Everyone concertinaed and basically had to go straight at turn one. I was on the outside and I paid the price by having to take to the run-off.” Unfortunately, Albon’s car later suffered from overheating issues, leading to his retirement from the race.

Calapinto defended his actions, stating, “I only saw Tsunoda next to me. There was a space, and I went inside in the corner. There was no one on my right.” Despite finishing 11th, he lamented missing out on points due to a delayed pit stop.

Carlos Sainz, who managed to evade the confusion, highlighted the need for caution, especially when competing for the constructors’ championship. “When you are playing for so many points with the team, you have to be more careful,” Sainz said.

As the dust settles, this incident underscores the fine balance between aggressive racing tactics and the careful strategy required in such high-stakes competitions.
