Lewis Hamilton and George Russell Skip Singapore GP Media Duties Due to Extreme Race Strain

Lewis Hamilton and George Russell skipped post-race media duties following the grueling Singapore Grand Prix on September 22, 2024. Mercedes-AMG Petronas confirmed the decision to Sky Sports F1, emphasizing the need for the drivers to recover from the race’s physical demands. “Unfortunately neither George or Lewis will be attending the media pen this evening as they recover from the exertions from this evening’s race,” the team’s statement read.

The Singapore Grand Prix is notorious for its challenging conditions, and this year proved no exception. Hamilton, who finished sixth, faced tire issues amidst extreme heat and humidity, while Russell battled to a fourth-place finish. The wear and tear of the track were evident in their performances and subsequent need for rest.

Lando Norris of McLaren claimed victory, followed by Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri, also from McLaren. Despite a tough season, Hamilton remained optimistic. “Qualifying has been a disaster for me all year long and I’ve been working, working and working trying to get myself back up there. All of a sudden the car came alive for the first time in qualifying in a long time,” Hamilton noted before the race.

While the absence of Hamilton and Russell from media duties highlights the physical toll of Formula 1 racing, their recovery is crucial for maintaining competitive performance in upcoming races.
