Max Verstappen Speaks Out on Major Red Bull Team Shake-Up After Key Management Exits

Red Bull Racing has launched significant organizational changes following the exit of key team members. Chief Technical Officer Adrian Newey exited in May, followed by the departure of Sporting Director Jonathan Wheatley. In response, Red Bull has promoted several internal talents to fortify their structure.

Gianpiero Lambiase ascends to Head of Racing while maintaining his role as Max Verstappen’s race engineer. Richard Wolverson, previously a senior car engineer, is now Head of Racing Operations. Stephen Knowles has been appointed to the newly created role of Head of Sporting Regulations, ensuring compliance with F1 rules.

Verstappen sees the reshuffling as apt, stating, “In itself, these are logical steps, with certain roles being divided among several people.” He acknowledged his awareness and involvement in the restructuring discussions, adding, “Of course I knew this was coming. They explain to me what they are going to do, upon which I give my opinion about it.” Verstappen is unfazed by Lambiase’s expanded duties: “No, that won’t be the case. He was doing more than just his job as my engineer anyway. It’s been well thought out and in the end, it just distributes the workload better. It’s okay.”

Team Principal Christian Horner emphasized the necessity of these changes, stating, “We are in the midst of a period of significant change and development at Oracle Red Bull Racing, and in light of the challenges to come, we have made the decision to alter the structure of the race team.” Horner believes these appointments will boost their competitive edge, noting, “The appointments will serve to give us greater capacity across a number of crucial areas and ultimately will, I believe, make the team more competitive.” He praised internal promotions, “For me, it is especially rewarding to have promoted people from within. We have a huge resource of exceptionally talented people at Oracle Red Bull Racing and I am delighted that we can give them the opportunity to shine in roles that were not previously open. It’s a step forward for the team as a whole.”

These adjustments aim to enhance Red Bull’s effectiveness and better prepare the team for upcoming races and seasons.
