McLaren has revealed its second special ‘Legend Reborn’ retro livery of the season, set to make its debut at the upcoming Singapore Grand Prix. This latest livery, developed in collaboration with OKX, pays homage to the iconic MP4 livery that graced the tracks from 1981 to 1996, celebrating the F1 legends who drove for McLaren during that era. Among the illustrious drivers commemorated are Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost, and Niki Lauda, whose names and legacies are honored around the cockpit of the car.
In this new design, McLaren has opted for their signature Papaya orange as the primary color, abandoning the traditional red. This bold choice is complemented by striking white accents and vertical stripes that harken back to the drama and elegance of the original MP4 livery. The rear wing features a distinctive white upper flap, while the front wing includes white detailing that mirrors the historic pairing of white with Marlboro red. The final livery is slated for an official unveiling on Thursday evening in Singapore.
Louise McEwen, McLaren’s Chief Marketing Officer, expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating, “It is fantastic to bring back our third bespoke livery in Singapore with OKX. Legend Reborn is a great way to celebrate and honour our iconic history, in a way that unites fans old and new. Following on from this year’s Senna campaign, this livery further embodies our partnership with OKX as we continue to deliver unique storytelling campaigns for McLaren fans and OKX customers globally.”
On the track, McLaren is enjoying a standout season. At the recent Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Oscar Piastri clinched victory after a thrilling duel with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, while teammate Lando Norris impressively finished 4th after starting from P15. These results have been pivotal in the Constructors’ Championship standings, allowing McLaren to extend their lead over Red Bull by 20 points following Sergio Perez’s incident with Carlos Sainz and Max Verstappen’s P5 finish.
The current standings reveal a tight race in the Constructors’ Championship, with McLaren leading with 476 points, followed by Red Bull at 456 points, and Ferrari with 425 points. Mercedes occupies fourth place with 309 points, and Aston Martin rounds out the top five at 82 points. In the Drivers’ Championship, Max Verstappen leads with 313 points, but Lando Norris has closed the gap, now trailing by 59 points. Charles Leclerc and Oscar Piastri are in close contention with 235 and 222 points, respectively.
As McLaren heads into the Singapore Grand Prix, the team aims to capitalize on the momentum from their recent performances and further solidify their lead in the championship standings. The unveiling of the ‘Legend Reborn’ livery not only serves as a nostalgic nod to their storied past but also as a testament to their enduring legacy and future aspirations.
The Singapore Grand Prix will undoubtedly be an exciting showcase, both for its high-octane racing and the debut of McLaren’s striking new livery. Fans and enthusiasts alike will be keen to see if McLaren can maintain their competitive edge and continue to make history on the track.
