PETRONAS and Mercedes Celebrate 50-Year Milestone with Special Singapore GP Livery

In a spectacular celebration of PETRONAS’ 50th anniversary, Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team has unveiled a special livery for the Singapore Grand Prix. This announcement comes as part of a long-standing partnership that has seen PETRONAS support Mercedes’ incredible success in Formula 1 since 2010. The collaboration has been central to Mercedes’ dominance in the sport, contributing to eight consecutive Constructors’ Championships from 2014 to 2021 and seven Drivers’ Championships during the same period.

The new livery, set to adorn the W15 cars of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, features the iconic PETRONAS Emerald Green, replacing much of the traditional silver, particularly along the car’s nose and sidepods. Toto Wolff, the Team Principal and CEO of Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, emphasized the significance of this milestone. “Our partnership with PETRONAS is our longest standing and still going strong, and for any company to reach its 50th anniversary is an incredible milestone. This livery is therefore not only a celebration of their 50th anniversary, but a reflection of PETRONAS’ importance in our team’s story and honours our journey together,” Wolff stated.

The introduction of this special livery in Singapore holds extra significance, marking not only PETRONAS’ milestone but also the strong bond that has driven both entities to remarkable heights. Lewis Hamilton expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “The livery looks incredible. I can’t wait to see it on the car in the garage and then to get behind-the-wheel on Friday. It’s a privilege to celebrate this milestone, and our journey together, at such an important race.” His team mate, George Russell, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the personal connection to the PETRONAS brand. “The design looks brilliant and is a fantastic tribute to such a milestone achievement. It is great to be able to recognise the importance of our relationship at the race closest to their home,” Russell remarked.

After the Singapore Grand Prix, the Mercedes team will continue their celebrations in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, at the PETRONAS headquarters, further cementing the significance of this partnership. This event is not just a ceremonial gesture but a testament to the successful synergy between performance, technology, and innovation that both PETRONAS and Mercedes represent.

The unveiling of the new livery occurs amid an intense 2024 Formula 1 season. Mercedes, currently in fourth place with 309 points in the Constructors’ Championship, trails behind McLaren, Red Bull, and Ferrari. McLaren sits at the top with 476 points, followed by Red Bull with 456 points, and Ferrari with 425 points. In the Drivers’ Championship standings, Max Verstappen leads with 313 points, with Lando Norris in second place at 254 points, and Charles Leclerc in third with 235 points. Among Mercedes drivers, Lewis Hamilton holds sixth place with 166 points, while George Russell is in seventh place with 143 points.

As the season progresses, the special livery for Singapore symbolizes not just a celebration of PETRONAS’ heritage but also an inspiration for future achievements. The partnership’s success story underscores the importance of collaboration and technological innovation in achieving excellence in motorsport. As the teams head to Kuala Lumpur post-race, the celebrations will honor not only the past 50 years but also the promising future ahead for this formidable partnership.

Looking ahead, the developments in the Formula 1 landscape may see this dynamic duo continuing to make significant contributions to the sport. The unveiling of the emerald-laden W15 cars could be a prelude to further advancements and victories on the horizon. Mercedes and PETRONAS have demonstrated year after year that their combined efforts drive not only championship wins but also technological progress in Formula 1.

In reflecting on this milestone, it is evident that the PETRONAS and Mercedes partnership represents much more than sponsorship; it’s a narrative of shared ambition and mutual success, paving the way for future innovations and triumphs in the world of motorsport.
